Display format

101.9(d)(1). The default, and the one the regulation strongly recommends.

Why tabular is not in this list

21 CFR 101.9(d)(11) permits a tabular display and fixes its type sizes, but the layout itself is published only as a sample label image — the text says "as shown in the following sample label" and describes no geometry. NORUM does not approximate a regulated panel format, so it refuses this one instead of drawing something that resembles it. The same applies to the infant, toddler, pregnant/lactating and bilingual formats.

Two more are missing for a different reason. An aggregate display covers two or more foods in one panel (101.9(d)(13)(i)), and a dual-column display needs a per-container column beside the per-serving one (101.9(e)). Both need data this page does not hold, and both live in a workspace where a product does.

Preflight

  • WARNINGA protein %DV requires protein-quality (PDCAAS) data and a regulatory condition check.

    Provide a PDCAAS-corrected protein value, or leave the protein %DV off the panel. Declaring protein %DV is optional for most conventional foods.

NORUM applies the FDA 2016 rounding rules and Daily Values. It does not decide your serving size: a Reference Amount Customarily Consumed is a per-category determination, and a guessed serving size changes every number on the panel.
